Know about Generation Z, Gen Z or I Gen and significance of STEM-integrated learning


GENERATION Z

Gen Z is demographic cohort of people mainly born between late 1990s and 2010s and now exist as adults of digital age.


Some of traits of Gen Z are as follows.


-Used to internet and social media to the extent of addition

-prefer digital and virtual world than the real world, even share personal problems on social media to seek solutions

-has hardly any interest in savings and family life - seek sensual pleasures, physical comforts, online shopping and home delivery

-least interest in reading and writing, more interest in digital devices, apps and 'smart' living

-has interests in AI mediated technologies, robotics, human-free automation and start ups

-more interested in gaming apps and on-line gaming

-not interested in home-cocking but eating out and preference for fast-food

-interested in pre-booked tours and travels

-Generation Z is experiencing puberty at considerably younger ages, mental health problems and sleep deprivation coupled with loose emotional ties

-not interested in classical arts and literature


STEM education significance

Keeping this in view, STEM-integrated learning seems to be the only way out right from early childhood in the changed techno-social environment leading to literacy and numeracy skills couple with appropriate and ethical use of digital devices. STEM-education teaches the protocol based use of tools, devices and skills with precautions as the ethical side of the technology.
