Know precept of friendship through a sentence acrostic on International Day of Friendship


This year the International Day of Friendship, observed on the first Sunday of August falls of the 1st August . The observance was established in 2011 and is being coordinated by UNESCO, is meant to promote a culture of amity, mutual respect, equity, peace and non-violence through education. The aim of the observance is that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.


According to the UN, friendship is a 'noble and valuable sentiment in the lives of human beings around the world.' "If children learn to live together in peace and harmony that will contribute to the strengthening of international peace and cooperation," states UNESCO while emphasising the need for educating children the value of sharing human spirit through friendship.


According to the UN, the International Day of Friendship is also based on the recognition of the relevance and importance of friendship as a noble and valuable sentiment in the lives of human beings around the world.


"Through friendship — by accumulating bonds of camaraderie and developing strong ties of trust — we can contribute to the fundamental shifts that are urgently needed to achieve lasting stability, weave a safety net that will protect us all, and generate passion for a better world where all are united for the greater good," stated UNESCO website.
