Linking World Music Day with learning by preschoolers with body percussion song

The World Music Day is observed on 21 June each year. Slowly, the observance has become an event has been taken over by the commercial and consumerist world to sell the observance and make profits in the name of music.

However, meaningful teachers, educators and researchers deem music as part of human culture and stress the need for multiple applications of music and multi-disciplinary linkage of music as a discipline with other academic disciplines.

In India, the Foundation Education (3-8 years age group; NEP-2020) requires the linkage of the observance through body percussion rhythmic singing which is a blending of  body-limb movements and sounds by  human body itself is the musical instrument and can be used of rhythmic intelligence enhancement of pre-primary kids.

Here is a body-percussion  poem to be used with pre-primary kids.

Clap-clap- clap

Clap your hands

Stomp-stomp-stomp

Stomp your feet

***

Pat-pat-pat

Pat your thighs

Beat-beat-beat

Beat your chest

***

Nod-nod-nod

Nod your head

Slap-slap-slap

Slap your cheeks

***

Snap-snap-snap

Snap your fingers

Blink-blink-blink

Blink your eyes
