'Multi-modal visually rich communication with diagnosis-prognosis based micro-learning strategy'

The 2nd Edition of of International Conference on 'Disability & Rehabilitation'; organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII, Northern Region) Disha Foundation and Rehabilitation Council of India; was held on 3-4 December 2020 on Virtual Platform.


Dr. Lalit Kishore, Associated with Disha, CULP and Bal Sansar delivered his keynote address on the theme "Developments in assistive devices and technology in verbal/nonverbal communication" and stressed the need to create a culture of in-house research, door-step research and action research with centrality of design-and-development approaches to create multimodal communication material. The institutionalization of such material should be supported by institutional leadership and capacity building of both educational functionaries and caregivers should be undertaken with follow-up.




Dwelling on his own experience at R&D Unit at Disha, he said that the communication supportive learning material, which was tried and tested by Dr Alka Awasthi, Vibhanshu Gaur and Varsha Tikkiwal, has become available in the institution's library-cum-documentation centre for the institutional leadership to put it into the system.


He also talked briefly the home-grown multi-modal communication oriented 'diagnosis-prognosis based micro-learning strategy' for individualized educational plans based on which a few lesson studies have been done which led to improved communication through acquisition of vertical communication literacies.


He mentioned that the visual-literacy rich science lessons for dysgraphic children studies at Disha as innovation received Commonwealth Award for its relevance for teaching science to children with learning disabilities.


Expressing gratitude to Dr Kishore for addressing the participants, Nitin Gupta, Director & Head of CII-Rajasthan conveyed via E-mail, "Your address at the programme was truly inspirational and the issues flagged by yourself were very pertinent. The programme went off well and was highly appreciated. The programme saw the participation over 350 delegates from various parts of India & abroad. Speakers too participated from across the Globe."
