National Service Scheme Day or NSS Day was observed in schools that partially opened as indicated with a poster and group photograph shared on the face book.
National Service Scheme (NSS) that was launched on 24th September, 1969 (the birth centenary year of Gandhi ji) and is celebrated every year as NSS Day on this date.
The aims of the NSS programme are:
to instill the idea of social welfare in students
to provide service to society without bias
to extend pro-active help to the needy
to protect human dignity

Activities
NSS voluteers have to take up two types of activities:
Regular Activities(120 hours) and Annual Special Camp(120 hours).
Special Camps in a rural village or a city suburb.
Volunteers undertake activities like cleaning; afforestation; stage shows or awareness rallies on issues such as social problems, education of poor, cleanliness in slums, health camps, etc.
