'Need to protect Earth from threat of climate disruption: Special on Mother Earth Day


The UN Chief, António Guterres, in his message for International Mother Earth Day-2024 urged the humanity to work towards restoring harmony with nature. clarifying the restoration of harmony with nature, he stated, "That means slamming the brakes on biodiversity loss, putting a stop to pollution, and slashing greenhouse gas emissions globally. It means supporting Indigenous Peoples, local communities and others being hit hardest by the pollution, climate and biodiversity crises. It means delivering climate justice to countries on the frontline of climate chaos, and swiftly mobilizing the finance and support countries need to act on climate, protect nature and promote sustainable development."


According to the UN, there is a need to act decisively to protect our planet from the existential threat of climate disruption.The UN deems that Mother Earth is clearly urging a call to action since Nature is suffering and sending warnings The UN holds on its website, “Climate change, man-made changes to nature as well as crimes that disrupt biodiversity, such as deforestation, land-use change, intensified agriculture and livestock production or the growing illegal wildlife trade, can increase contact and the transmission of infectious diseases from animals to humans (zoonotic diseases) like COVID-19.” .


The steps for restoration of ecosystem is only way of making peace with nature by intensifying the following action:

• Growing trees

• Greening cities

• Re-wilding gardens / (forest gardening)

• Changing diets and life style / (emphasizing forest food)

• Cleaning up rivers and coasts


“Let’s remind more than ever in this International Mother Earth Day that we need a shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet. Let’s promote harmony with nature and the Earth,” said the UN chief in his an earlier message.
