United States President Joe Biden; Vice President Kamala Harris and their new administration was officially sworn into office on January 20, 2021.
Much awaited swearing in ceremony was held at the Capitol and a wreath-laying event at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
People all around the world, more so the people of Indian origin, watched the ceremony on TV since it was for the first time the US was getting the woman vice-president that too with Indian connection.
An ex-student of KV, Tenga Valley, now settled in the US wrote on her FB post that Vice President Kamala Harris had 'shattered the glass ceiling to be the first woman to hold the prestigious and powerful office' and added, "I am reminded of the poem which I learnt by heart as an eight year old to recite in school competition and won the 1st prize. It is apt even today for all and more so for us Americans, as it is a reminder that 'a fearless mind' can achieve even the toughest task. Nothing is impossible, which is exactly what has happened as History is created!!" She wrote further that she was personally feeling happy, grateful and relaxed that under the new administration there would be 'no fear' of being a certain color of skin, or of being from a certain country!'
Pratibha has dedicated her all 'time favorite poem' to all of her FB friends from near and far regardless of their color, creed, religion, orientation and country of origin urging "May we raise our children with ALL the freedom, NO fear and head held high!"
The poem from 'Gitanjali by Rabindranath Tagore' goes as follows: Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; / Where knowledge is free; / Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; / Where words come out from the depth of truth; / Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection; / Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit; / Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action / Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
