Kamla Bhasin, India's most prominent humanist-feminist, passed away on September 25, 2021. She will be remembered by women and social activists for long for her multifarious talents such as poetry, prose, visual arts and research that she combined with grassroots activism.
She left her job with the UN and took to feminist and developmental activism. She worked through 'Sangat - A Feminist Network' and she also was the South Asia coordinator of 'One Billion Rising'.
Through her multiple talents and humanistic insights, she successfully synthesized 'feminist theory and community action.'
She has been of the view that an awareness campaign must immediately turn into community action or else it becomes mere tokenism and clever hoodwinking - that what articulated during her visit to a primary education project in Rajasthan.
