Many examination boards at national and international level are promoting the idea of ‘topic research’ and project work along with paper writing skills as a part their curriculum to give a feel of research process to students.
It was decided at the Plenum School in Himachal Pradesh to prepare a document on ‘how it ought to be done’ with an exemplar research report. A mini-focus group was formed (Dr Lalit Kishore –pedagogy expert; Umang – Principal and Atharv – senior student), which deliberated for two hours on two different days in the last week of November 2021.
The following flow diagram emerged out the deliberation for devoting 120 hours on topic research.

It was decided that presentation of report should be made in the class and an open viva be conducted to complete the process of evaluation of the report. Also, it was agreed upon that a school-based document be created on topic research for transaction among the staff to systematize topic research and build quality on this area of curriculum.
