Project emphasizing gender inclusion and equity in maths education wins Commonwealth Award for 2023

Indian educator and researcher, Dr Lalit Kishore, who is alumnus of Kurukshetra University and the life member of Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) and Indian Physics Association (IPA) is the recipient of the Commonwealth Award-2023 decided on the basis the evaluation of the entries received from the STEM educators of Commonwealth countries. Commonwealth Association of Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering Educators (CASTME) and Philip Harris/Findel collaborate for the annual award scheme to select the innovative projects during the current academic session.




Dr Kishore's project addressed the effective learning of maths by girls of secondary uni-sex school by emphasising the language of mathematics, group learning strategy and feminist social pedagogy that emphasises collaboration and cooperation.


"For gender inclusion and equity in maths education, the classroom processes must incorporate the elements of linguistic intelligence which emphasises comprehension skills and curriculum reorganized and made suitable for group learning. For the learning topic wise learning sheets were prepared that emphasised math vocabulary and concept attainment before solving the sums," informs Dr Kishore


Three Findel-CASTME award categories are the Education Award, Protect Our Planet Award, and Community Award which are Presented to the entries that displays an innovative approach to increasing STEM awareness.
