Makarasana is a yoga pose in which the practitioner lies down in prone position with both legs stretched out and the head is caught in the arms.
Many Yoga teachers say that it is a variation of Salabhasana or locust yoga pose in which body is in prone position and head and legs raised slightly. The fingers of the two hands are interlocked at back of the head, with the elbows are raised off the ground.
Prone position yoga poses are best for regulating the diaphragmatic breathing regulation.
Such yoga exercises have been converted in prone position therapy for mild COVID patients with three times a day practice from 15 minutes to 3 hour supported prone position lying down with cushion support at the head, chest and knees with slow regulated breathing.
It has been reported that the ‘prone position therapy’ improves respiration and enhances oxygen supply to the bottom and back portions of the lungs.
