Protecting oneself and others against COVID-19: Rational and spiritual ways to stay safe

The elders tell us that safety is in awareness, preparedness and carefulness by avoiding self-harm and as well as the harm to others. As F.S. Hughes puts it "Safety brings first aid to the uninjured."

It has been rightly said by someone that safety results from carefulness that costs us nothing but lack of it could cost you your or someone else's life.

Unknown and invisible enemy - the Novel Coronavirus - has struck humanity. There is no weapon to fight back. The only choice is to stay at home in hiding and learn to be safe and acquire a 'safety behaviour.'

Here are some slogans that are being circulated these days as we are passing through testing times of social distancing and self-responsibility for personal safety as a part the safety for others.

SLOGANS

  • Social distancing - your choice

  • Stay home, stay safe

  • Safety first, so you last

  • Safety comes first, live safe

  • Safety first, safety always

Various spiritualists are suggesting that the crisis period mandating 'social distancing as new normal' should be seen as opportunity to seek and strive for the spiritual value of 'solitude.'

Here is a non-poem on solitude to reflect on and acquire it with conscious effort during lockdown period.

NON-POEM ON SOLITUDE

It's time to deep-learn solitude

It's time to get recluse from delusions

It's time of freedom

It's time of inner peace -

The tried and tested safety armour

~*~

It's time to find own company -

The company of the inner self

Uninhabited by thoughts

And be with bliss

That resides in the stillness of mind -

The real place to stay safe
