Spiritual intelligence (SI), often referred to as existential intelligence, is gaining recognition in the field of educational psychology as an essential ability for profound understanding, meaning-making, and overall development.
In the Indian context, the development of SI has been integrated into social learning, with mothers and mother figures playing a crucial role in this process.
Today, SI is perceived as the effective application of spiritual insights—such as empathy, purpose, and values—to address challenges and navigate existential dilemmas. It allows students to engage with a sense of meaning and ethical comprehension, transcending simple rational thought (IQ) or emotional intelligence.
By nurturing SI, education fosters emotional resilience, compassion, and the development of a well-rounded character.
Mother as first spiritual guide of children: Poem
A mother, high in spirit's grace,
The family's guiding, sacred space.
She brings forth life, a gentle hand,
And nurtures growth across the land.
A watchful guardian, strong and bold,
Protecting futures, yet untold.
She is the first to teach and show,
A Rishika, planting seeds to grow.
Her dharma, love, a constant flow,
Shaping manners, helping glow.
With values pure, a steady light,
She makes the world feel pure and bright.
