Remembering Nirgun devotional saint Kabir on his birth anniversary

Kabir Jayanti marks the observance birth birth anniversary of mystical saint and poet of 15th century, Sant Kabir on June 14, 2022, Often, the programme for the day consists of recitation of Granth Beejak, singing of Nirgun devotional songs and classical singing.

Sant Kabir was born in the 15th century to Muslim parents in Varanasi. He was influenced by teachings of Guru Ramananda and spirituality. He believed in humanism and shunned division of human beings on the basis of religion, caste, creed and gender, I wrore in an article earlier [1].

It is said that Kabir Das used to describe himself as the child of Allah sometimes and as child of Ram during other times to stress the concept of humanism. He often expressed his divine feelings with beautiful arrangement of words as mystical odes which are sung all over India.

All over his life, Kabir actively denounced idol worship and caste structure. He had propagated that God was in everyone and existed everywhere.

Here is the English translation of Kabir's poetry.

-Love does not grow on trees or brought in the market, but if one wants to be loved, one must first know how to give unconditional love.

-Lift the veil that obscures the heart and there you will find what you are looking for.

-Listen to the secret sound, the real sound, which is inside you. The one no one talks of speaks the secret sound to himself, and he is the one who has made it all.

-The Lord is in me, the Lord is in you, as life is in every seed, put false pride away and seek the Lord within.
