Research in teacher education & curriculum neglects planned & purposive approaches: Concept note

“Quality teaching and student learning are interconnected, covering all the pedagogical aspects. The present status of research in teacher education is neglecting planned and purposive approaches, included in teacher education curriculum. Weak research methodology programmes are being conducted just for the sake of organising the programme which lacks the components necessary for the present day scenario like blended research, technological packages, advanced methods and approaches etc,” stated the concept note of the seminar.

The main purpose of the seminar was ‘to reflect on research in teaching, training and learning, which encompasses philosophical and sociological aspects, methodological aspects, emerging trends in statistical analysis and interpretation, policy planning, implementation and research in teacher education which also includes secondary education, special education, vocational education and e-learning etc., for qualitative research and quality in education.’

The concept note added that there was a need for research in teaching, training and learning to focus attention on pedagogical and methodological aspects along with data analysis and interpretation with the advent of the digital age.

Some of the important sub-themes for the seminar were: Research in policy making, planning and implementation; Teacher education, teaching methods; Secondary education; Science education; Language education; Special education, technical and vocational education; Religious education; Professional development; E- learning; and many more.

The UGC- sponsored two-day national seminar on “Research in Teaching, Training and Learning (NSRTTL-2019)” was held on 21st & 22nd March 2019 at Department Of Education & HRD, Dravidian University, Srinivasavanam, (Kuppam, Chittoor) in Andhra Pradesh.
