SHORT NOTE
A diamond poem or a diamante, is a seven-line poem that forms a diamond shape when written or typed. It typically contrasts two opposing concepts, contrast or antonyms.
In an earlier post, this blogger [1] wrote. "An 'Antonym Diamante Poem' - a seven line diamond-shaped - begins and ends with single words that form the top and bottom of shape poem. In the antonym form of poem, the top and bottom words will have the opposite meaning. In writing an Antonym Diamante Poem, the first step is to think of two nouns that have opposite meanings and write them as the first and the seventh line." Emphasising the use of such poems for vocabulary building, he stated, "For language poems, single 16 words are used."
The format of a diamante is as follows:
Line 1: one noun (the first concept),
Line 2: two adjectives describing the first concept,
Line 3: three participles (verbs ending in -ing) related to the first concept,
Line 4: four nouns – two related to the first concert and two related to the antonym,
Line 5: three participles related to the second subject
Line 6: two adjectives describing the antonym
Line 7: one noun (the second concept, contrasting or opposite of the first).
