Annecy is the largest city in south-eastern France that lies on the northern tip of much visited Lake Annecy. It can be approached from Geneva also since it about forty kilometres from there. I could not visit the place in 1977 but later in 1998, I could make one-day trip on the weekend while doing a course in Paris and visited most of city on foot.
The lake, rivers and the surroundings are so charming that it is also called the "Pearl of French Alps" or "Venice of the Alps" due its location between the lake and the surrounding mountains. The sunrise from behind the mountains presents a spectacular scene.
All the building land between the lake and the protected Semnoz Mountain is fully occupied and its resident population has become stable. Floating population is that tourists, holidayers and visitors which are the main source of the economy from the place.
For both the Swiss and the French this is an idyllic and touristic spot with the three canals and the Thiou River running through the old city. Also, the lake is a big attraction.
The town is also craft hub and silk industry along with a few other industries. Besides the activities at the lake, the town has attraction of an old castle and fine art museum. Another short time attraction is the annual Animated Film Festival at Bonlieu Cultural Centre.
The town has a lot of green spaces with a lot of flower plants of different varieties for camera clicks. It is also becoming a educational hub with opening of a university.
If one is visiting France or Switzerland, one can easily visit the place and would be charmed by the locale.
