RUN-FOR-RAI of Ex-Raists highlights wogging as fitness mantra with multiple advantages

Commenting on Run-for-Rai - which had running, hiking and wogging events organized by the alumni of the Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, popularly called Ex-Raists - one of the participants, Pammy Kapoor wrote, "This time, with my side kick Jyoti Dahiya, I walked and Jyoti wogged (walk + jog) to complete 5km run to keep our 'Rai Spirit' high. Thanks to Prez Sonam Soni for motivating us."

Besides the participants from North India, there were participants from South and other parts of India (Shabnam, Pawan, Anil, Mahendra, Rachna and associates) as well as from foreign countries (Aseesh, Kapoor Singh, Pooja, Narender), informed Soni. There were many more who joined the event as shown in the inset picture.

Here is my short note on 'wogging'.

Wogging is gross motor exercise that combines of walking and jogging which I have found suitable for people above forty years of age and those with special needs. It is combination of walk-a-while and run-a-while. It combines successively running and relaxation through walking. Many physio-therapists are using it for rehabilitation of people after injury in which the steps for running and walking are prescribed with a protocol.

In fact, special kids who wish be runners, but don't yet have the muscular endurance to run are prescribed wogging as a part of gross motor development. After, diagnosis, the physio-therapists short doses of running into the client's walking routines.

Among therapists and fitness experts the term 'wogging' has become popular to prescribe workouts that intersperse walking with running. Even for elderly woggers, 5-10 minutes of workout is helpful to keep their muscles and bones fit.

Furthermore, group wogging helps you to socialise, relax and keep us fit and to overcome mid-life crisis.
