From the session 2025-26,the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020) is going to implemented in institutions with textbooks and learning material developed the NCERT and CBSE. Despite the criticism and controversies, it imcombundant on the institutions, the develop higher order thinking skills such as reflective and thinking to deal with any kind of content. Educational institutions must make use the right kind of classroom practices that promoting multidisciplinary learning, STEM education, skill education and and flexible academic pathways to improve their students employability as educated skilled functionaries in the fast changing technology. The insitutions would be required to attend to the relevance, quality and equity in the classroom processes.
Furthermore, as a part of the NEP-2020 the 'No Detention Policy of NEP-1986' has been scrapped for the grade levels 5 and 8. However, the sudents who fail eend-of-session or annual examinations in these grades must retake examinations within two months and perform well to be promoted. This policy implicates that the schools must organise remedial bridge courses of 1.5 to 2 momths to overcome the learning gaps leading to better learning outcomes. Therefore, the schools must concentrate on improving the social and instructional pedagogies. The schools need to create the short-term courses consisting of hard spots of learning to help students with low-paces of learning either through extra-classes before the annual exam or after the exam.
The guiding principle for the education reform at the school level, especially at the middle school level is to treat prescribed textbooks of various subjects as one of the many learning resources and adapt in an integrated way in the multi-disciplinary and skill education formats.
The framework of middle school curriculum adaptation, as this blogger sees, could be as follows.
