Shahidi-Hafta to remember the supreme sacrifice of the ‘Char Sahibzadas’ of Shri Guru Gobind Singhji

The supreme sacrifices were made by Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Sahib (The Tenth Guru of Sikhism), his parents and sons against then rulers' repression, bigotry and polarisation of populace.

According to Sikh historians, the Guru's mother Mata Gujri and his two younger sons were captured by Wazir Khan, the Mughal governor of Sirhind, then tortured and executed after they refused to convert to Islam. Imprisoned Mata Gujri was shocked on hearing her grandsons' execution and died shortly after the news.

Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Sahib’s two eldest sons were also killed in the Battle of Chamkaur against the Mughal army.

Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Sahib is equally revered by the followers of Hinduism since he had has sacrificed all of his family members to protect the Hindu Religion.

The martyrdom and supreme sacrifice of the “Char Sahibzadas” was remembered everyday during Ardas and the week from December 21 to 26 is observed as “Shahidi-Hafta” by the Sikhs across the world.
