Significance of Syllable Aum in Arya Samaj Sect of Hinduism

In Arya Samaj, the sound AUM is seen as the most profound, natural, and personal name of God, rather than just a representation of any physical deities linked to forms or idols.
Founded by Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, Arya Samaj dismisses idol worship and polytheism. In his important work, Satyarth Prakash, Maharishi outlines the main names of God, highlighting AUM as the most straightforward and natural name that reflects the Almighty's endless qualities. Arya Samaj views AUM strictly as the singular formless, all-powerful, and ever-present God who carries out all functions (creating, sustaining, and transforming).
When the syllable AUM is divided into three root sounds, each phoneme signifies the supreme qualities of the formless God as Supreme Consciousness:
A (Akara): Symbolizes Creation -Utpatti - the waking state of consciousness, and God's role as the creator of the physical universe.
U (Ukara): Symbolizes Preservation -Palan - the dream state, and God's function as the sustainer and protector of the cosmos.
M (Makara): Symbolizes Dissolution/Transformation -Pralaya - deep sleep, and God as the recycler or transformer of matter.
Arya Samaj holds the Vedas in the highest regard. AUM is chanted and meditated upon because it is considered the original sound essence of Vedic mantras, which is essential at the beginning and end of sacred study.
The Arya Samaj tradition stresses a careful, authentic Vedic pronunciation (ā̄um or a3um) to respect the precise phonetic structure outlined in ancient Sanskrit and Vedic grammar, steering clear of sectarian or mythological distortions.
Inspired Haiku
Aum is the one Truth,
Symbol of the great Spirit,
Arya Samaj speaks.
Vedas light the way,
Truth revealed in ancient words,
Others are but tales
Aum is the divine,
Sound of the infinite soul,
Essence of all life.
Aum creates your soul,
Preserves, dissolves in the light,
Life is Aum Shanti.
