Most children with special needs (CWSN) are visual learners. More so the children with learning disabilities. However, for such children, visual- motor integration activities as pre-writing skills are a must.
"Linking vision and fine-motor skills or movements, development of hand and fingers’ fine motor muscles are required through simple drawing activities as interventions or assisted activities to get a feel of shapes and structures things of daily used as well as that of alphabet by children with special need," said the resource person Dr Lalit Kishore at workshop at Disha in Jaipur.
The activities related to implied line drawing, continuous drawing both through guided and assisted activities not only enhance visual perception, but children get ready for writing skills which require tripod grasp for the pencil and its movement.
During a workshop for around 50 special educators did drawing exercises on visual codes through worksheets and a mini-book. They reacted positively and found that acquired skills will help them to prepare learning aids rather being consumers of manufactured teaching aids.
