About National Mathematics Day

Since 2012, India's National Mathematics Day is celebrated on 22 December every year with numerous educational events held at schools and universities throughout the country to mark the birth anniversary of legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan (22 December 1887 – 26 April 1920). In 2021 a postal stamp was also released on him In 2017, the day's significance was enhanced by the opening of the Ramanujan Math Park in Kuppam, in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. National Mathematics Day is celebrated in all schools and universities throughout the country. (Wikipedia)

About the Activity Book

Activity book “Shape Puzzles, Disections & Tangrams” authored by Dr. Lalit Kishore provides hands-on and perceptual learning experiences of geometry and shapes. The activities in the book can be done in three hours to work as geometry-readiness programme. The book has been published by the University Book House, Jaipur, which can be used both for demonstration of activities as well as for conducting math lab experiments (see inset Pic).

About Significance of shape puzzles

Shape puzzles are crucial for children's math education as they build foundational spatial reasoning skills and introduce geometric concepts like symmetry and congruence. By manipulating shapes to form a coherent whole, kids instinctively explore patterns and relationships, developing a practical understanding of how shapes combine to create complex mathematical patterns and designs . This hands-on experience translates into better problem-solving abilities and a stronger grasp of mathematical language. (Google, 2025)
