SOUND / ALLITERATION POEM EXAMPLE
SOUND / ALLITERATION POEM EXAMPLE

Short Note

Conventionally, a pyramid poem is a sound poem of four lines, in which the first line has one word, the second line two words, and so on with each word in the poem beginning with the same sound. Since four-line sound poem has all word beginning with the same sound is also called alliteration poem.

According to Kishore (2022), such poems are good for phonetically sound vocabulary building there is a format for writing a pyramid poem. He suggests, "The steps in the first way are as follows: Choose a beginning sound, then brainstorm for words with the chosen words and list various parts of speech that begin with that sound such as nouns, adjectives, verbs, propositions, etc. thereafter, form the poem by changing the word-endings and tenses to create a reasonable poem," adding that such poems are good for phonic learning of alphabet, consonants and vowel sounds of a language, especially English. He in favour of adapting the conventional rhymes when replaced by pyramid poems build contextual and relevant vocabulary to accelerate the learning of language[1].

Examples in language teaching

Here are two such poems that was created for a lesson study for alphabet teaching: (1) A / An apple / Ate an apple / Alka ate an apple ; and (2) B / Black bat / Behold black bat/ Baby! Behold black bat!

According to Wikipedia, STEAM education is an approach to teaching STEM subjects that incorporates artistic skills like creative thinking and design. The name derives from the acronym STEM, with an A added to stand for arts. It has been suggested that 'Arts' in STEM Education also includes various 'language arts' and 'pattern poetry' including alliteration poems or sound poems.

Since in the present times, STEAM education is being advocated right from childhood, here is a pyramid poem on 'automation.'
