Tips for making a moment-GIF from a mobile video by selecting frames with screen shots


A moment-GIF is meant to highlight the prominent moment which can be action, reaction, emotion or expression. If you have captured an event as a short video in your smart phone camera, iPhone or Aneroid, you can create an attention capturing moments in form of looped animated GIF-flashes or frames.


Invariably, most GIFs are created from moments captured on video. Think of action-moments that can highlight something for 'watching the moment' over and again by looping up two or more successive actions with a very short time lapses.


It has been observed that the short visual loops of two or more moment-pictures of an action can result into a good GIF.


The inset GIF was made from an event held by ex-students of MNSS, Rai, called EX-Raists which regarding the victory moments after a match.


The following steps were used for creating the GIF

  • Choosing the video

  • Identifying the section of the video for making the animated moment-GIF

  • Selecting two to six frames for your GIF that highlight the actions

  • Taking the screen shots of these frames

  • Tapping the 'Create GIF' option

  • Selecting the frame and finalizing the GIF with right speed

  • Saving the created animated GIF


At times you can add text or other available visual symbols available in the editing option of the camera. This thing was done with the inset GIF in which the motto of the school was used for connect it to moment which means 'Ascend and Win'.
