To build quality into education, combine both social pedagogy and instructional pedagogy

Since education is a social process, it has often has two aspects attached to it, namely, 'learning environment. and learning processes'. The former is related to pre-conditions for learning which means the relationships between the teacher and learners as well as among learners and societal constituents are of prime concern.


The concept of social pedagogy mandates viewing schools and classrooms as community of learners. However, initially, the concept was had the focus on resolving social problems through education, but now it relates to the social environment both inside and out of classroom.

As noted social pedagogue Hamalainen puts it that social pedagogy has 'a focus on the promotion of welfare, community life, and the social development of the individual and of the population.'


Thus, social pedagogy believes in the precept that educational institutions are the smaller communities of learner within the larger communities whose needs they serve. Thus, a social-pedagogy subscribing institution believes in flow of the community into an educational institution as a support system and flow of the institution into the community both for support and reforms. Thus, under social pedagogy, 'learning, care, health, general well-being and development are viewed as totally inseparable' as Boddy and his associates perceive.
