According to some recent news reports in the press, the NCERT is readying the interim revised National Curriculum Framework (NCF) which includes the implications of the current situation of disruption of institutionalized school education due to COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
This will be the fifth revision of NCF, the earlier four have been as follows.
1. NCF-1975
2. NCF-1988
3. NCF-2000
4. NCF- 2005
Furthermore, the redesigned textbooks will also draw inspiration from Atma Nirbhar Bharat scheme and E-Vidya programme and SWAYAM PRABHA channels to make it integrative.
Some of the actions that are likely to take place would be as follows:
Finalization of new NCF by by subject experts by December 2020 for plausible implementation in 2021
Redesigning of the textbooks in accordance with the MHRD-approved new NCF by reduction of content with focus on core curriculum and integration with emergent issues as additional areas
Reduction of cognitive load on learners on bases of age-grade appropriateness
Additional to be integrated with core content are going to be the following
-Creative thinking
-Life skills
- Indian ethos
- Art
It has also been said that the examination reforms of ‘uniform assessment and evaluation system’ as proposed by the New Education Policy draft report will also be carried out.
