With the validation and recognition of research on big-book usage at the pre-primary level at the national conference on the library and information science held at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (Haryana) on 16 March, 2024, I have started working on creating and trialling of big-books to acquire the literacy of the Bhagavad Gita for transition to learning English alphabet since English has been introduced as a second language in most states of India.
It is being envisaged that the intervention would provide spiritual-intelligence based cultural linkage to learning foreign language and reverence for scripture that subscribes for philosophy of life on tenets of the Gita such as selfless actions, soulful devotion and self-knowledge for its own worth.
The paper “."Experimenting with User-Centred Big Books and Classroom String Library Development for School Kids: Intervention cum Action Research At Foundational Stage"
by Dr Lalit Kishore and Subhash Chauhan of Som Gurukul, Kurukshetra was highly appreciated and recognized at the national conference"Ranganathan’s Ideas in the Present Context"...which also made news in the print media and social media.
The trialling of intervention “Designing and Using Supplementary Big Books on the Gita for Scriptural Literacy to School Beginners Being Taught English as Second Language” has been planned for the school beginners to provide cultural linkage to learning a new language.
The content for book to learn about alphabet ‘A’ goes as follows.
·

·Arjuna / Able Arjuna/ Able archer Arjuna/ Able archer Arjuna aimed/ Able archer Arjuna aimed at an apple.
·Arjuna begins with A.... ·Arjuna. Archer, Arrow, Apple, all begin with A...A-A-A ·
The images and letter A will be reinforced with card, bingo and board games
