Viability of TESS-India teacher development programme

“The TESS (Teacher Education through School Support)-India Open Educational Resources (OER) comprise 105 units aimed at pre- and in-service elementary and secondary school teachers (Teacher Development OER), and 20 units for school leaders (School Leadership OER). The OER are available in multiple versions for use in a range of linguistic and cultural contexts. Here you will find the English language versions,” states the organizers of the course the Open University of The UK adding that the course is based on participatory pedagogy.

Further, the organisers add, “Initiated in November 2012, TESS-India was implemented across seven priority states: Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Karnataka, Assam and West Bengal. TESS-India open educational resources (OER) have been embedded into pre- and in-service teacher education programmes across all seven states, sustainably strengthening existing systems at relatively low cost and reaching more than 1 million teachers and teacher educators.”

According to Dr Kishore, the TESS-India provides a practical and scalable approach to teacher education with an inclusive, participatory and learner-centred pedagogy. Inshore has done an article and written two papers on the efficacy of TESS-India programmes which were presented in the conferences. (See inset clipping)
