Visual-Auditory-Kinesthetic learning style makes learning inclusive for good majority of CWSN

Updated: Dec 26, 2021

"The performances of children with special needs (CWSN) at calendar release event of Bhavani Vidyalaya of Jaipur on December 25 demonstrated that the Visual-Auditory-Kinesthetic Learning style makes learning inclusive for good majority of CWSN. With gesture-vocabulary and rhythmic flow of body limbs from one gesture to another with short academic poems both singing and dancing become educational therapy leading to cognitive development of CWSN," stated the city based educator-researcher Dr Lalit Kishore who had been working on the pedagogy of inclusive education for the last few years and whose interventions have won the Commonwealth Award.

The calendar release and its subsequent reading by the participants of event was marked by the a quick matching-items test in which better scores were attained by picture and text matching test items. Commenting on the test, Dr Kishore said that dual code communication - a combination of text and visual codes - leads to active working memory across the ability spectrum. He was of the view that cross-lateral yoga postures in which limbs cross the mid-line are appropriate for the CWSN since they help the brain's hemispheric interaction and evoke the dormant neurological functions. Yoga as a therapy for CWSN recommends the use of cross-lateral exercises in slow motion.

Ln Vikas Khator and his team from Lions Club Jaipur Central Spine-Dist. 3232 E1 felicitated the functionaries of the school for their dedicated work for the cause of education of CWSN.

According to Dr Kishore, the diagnostic analysis of the child must inform what is the existing strength of the child and design the first triangulated intervention to build potential of the child through prognosis and follow-up model - the micro-learning based education therapy model which draws strength from the processes of medical science in which the designed intervention is called treatment and prognosis leads to remediation.

The bottom lines of the calendar, that has 12 postures of Surya Namaskar in shape drawings done by the students of the school, proclaim, "Bhavani Vidyalaya is an academic development center with emphasis on inclusive education in a learner friendly environment. We cater for the needs of children with delayed milestones and specific learning difficulties by training and engaging them in various skills."
