In the memory of on former president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the World Students' Day is celebrated on October 15 to commemorate his birth anniversary.
Bharat Ratna Dr. Abdul Kalam ( 1931 - 2015) was a noted aerospace scientist, who also served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was born in Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu) on October 15 in 1931 who had early school education in his town and later moved out to study physics and aerospace engineering.
He worked at senior positions in the Defence Research and Development Organisation and Indian Space Research Organisation and gave a boost defence and space projects related to the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. He also played an important role in Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998.
He always loved to interact with students and motivated them to dream big. He deemed himself as a learner- teacher foremost who had believed, “ Education is an endless journey- through knowledge and enlightenment. Real education enhances the dignity of a human being and increases his- or her self- respect and universal brotherhood in its true sense becomes the sheet anchor for such education.”
