World Tourism Day-2022 is going to be held on September 27 with the theme “Rethinking Tourism” for which the official celebration will be held in Bali, Indonesia, for highlighting the shift towards 'tourism being recognized as a crucial pillar of development' as per UNWTO.
Earlier in 2019 when New Delhi had hosted World Tourism Day-2019 for UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General, UNWTO, in his message said, "Tourism can help us build a better future for everyone. Around the world, the tourism sector is leading source of employment, supporting many millions of jobs and driving economies forward, both at the local and the national level."
"The true potential of tourism, both as a creator of jobs and as a driver of equality and sustainable development, is only just being realized. Providing decent work opportunities and contributing to developing professional skills are at the heart of this. Well managed, the continued growth of our sector will encompass countless opportunities and allow tourism to live up to its global social responsibility to leave no one behind," he added in consonance with this year theme "Tourism and Jobs: A better Future for All".
He urged, "As we celebrate World Tourism Day, let us recognize the transformative power of tourism. Together, we can realize tourism’s potential to build a better, more equal future."
Indian Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel conveyed that the tourism sector was not only an engine for economic growth but also an effective tool for poverty alleviation among the marginalised segments of the society.
“For becoming job giver instead of job seeker, we have to adopt entrepreneurship in tourism sector capable of doing wonders with highest employment multiplier,” opines Professor M.M. Goel, Vice Chancellor and Kurukshetra based economist According to him, Entrepreneurship of all kinds calls for action-oriented and highly motivated individual who is ready to achieve goals, said Goel.
To be motivated for self-employment, we have to adopt entrepreneurship in services more than manufacturing with ample opportunities including empowerment of consumers with competitive advantage, convenient, fewer hassles, quick adjustment to market conditions and low cost cloud shops , believes Goel.
