World Water Day: Create eco schools rather than showy schools to conserve water & reuse waste water

The UN proclaimed World Water Day is held on 22 March every year since 1993 to conserve water and make access to safe drinking water to all. According to the UN, the current core focus is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 related to 'water and sanitation for all by 2030.'

On this World Water Day, the educational institutions must learn from the eco school or green school concept to empower students, teachers, parents, the neighborhood and the management to improve the school's physical and social environment, raise environmental awareness, and make school eco friendly by using solar power, harvesting rain water, treating waste or grey water for school gardens, segregating waste for compositing and craft work, creating outdoor learning spaces, planting trees, etc..

It has been found that by engaging schools in such activities not only education becomes cost effective but also links learning of environment studies and science through designed school based projects and outdoor practicals.
