World Wildlife Day (3 March, 2025) is being observed with the theme “Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet” to emphasize innovative solutions to protect wildlife and wildlife habitat by ensuring long-term conservation interventions instead mere eventful celebration and usual tokenism.
One of the ways could be to develop microcredential skill courses on wildlife conversation for motivating middle school students to take up higher education courses in related fields as careers and contribute positively to the efforts.
Herein, a proposal is being made in respect which goes as follows in tune with the NEP-2020.
At the middle school level, a 12-hour module can be created as a part of environmental studies based sill training with exposure of students to the topics such as: Forest resource management and economics; forest products marketing; wildlife habitat and species management; avian life (disappearing sparrows) conflict resolution due to urbanization and mitigation; and biological control of insects, pests and diseases of forest trees and plants.
The practical or project can be in the form of field study of a Wildlife Sanctuary or National Park or zoo or animal welfare NGO engaged in animal rescue and rehabilitation work.
