Dr. S Radhakrishnan, former president of India was an extraordinary teacher, profound philosopher, great visionary and subtle statesman whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Teacher's Day (September 5) in India.
As we know that the use of digital technology has become a 'new norm' in challenging times of COVID pandemic both for classroom instruction and observance of events. Keeping this in view, the alumni group of the Motilal School of Sports (MNSS), Rai, Haryana, called Ex-Raist Association (ERA), organized a two-hour on-line interactive session with their teachers to observe Teacher's Day which was hosted and anchored by two ex-students Shalini and Sonam.
The session was meant to express gratitude toward and pay respect to the teachers of MNSS for their commitment and contribution in the lives of the ex-students who are doing well in life.
A secondary analysis of the interaction, when treated as discursive data, made me to conclude about what students positively and fondly remembered as follows
The contribution of fine and performing art teachers is shaping personality and building confidence
The supporting and scaffolding relationship with teachers in the caregiver and mentoring roles at school
The teachers with professionalism, co-curricular interests and hobbies
The language teachers committed to literature and creative-arts skills imparted through appreciative approaches
The students also remembered some teachers, though amusingly but respectfully, who were stylish, trendy and glamours, and evoked "puppy love" in some cases or "platonic love" in some other. However, the teachers and coaches with faith in 'command, control and strictness' were seen with neutrality.
The conclusion is that teachers who are committed to their profession with supportive relationship with their students create 'good human beings' who do a 'good job' in their work life and contribute to the society positively.
