To promote reading in third grade, make children practice echo-reading and reading aloud in pairs. First and foremost the teacher should be the reading model himself or herself. The teacher must read the text with right pronunciation, intonation and pauses. This will make language learning inclusive especially for children with learning disabilities such as dysgraphia, dyscalculia and dyslexia. Also, organize reading theatre of collective reading. The dictation exercises reinforce reading with writing practice.
A clinical study (see inset picture) was done with a child with dysgraphia of grade three, by creating one page reading material with 8-10 words and 8-10 sentences from 16 chapters of government prescribed textbook in Rajasthan state.
For sixteen day with half an hour on each chapter, the reading pages were created the teacher by involving the child in identifying the words and sentences which were echo-read and then read by the child.
It was found that the child could read the book well and relate to what was being spoken by the teacher in the classroom, The course was then taken to classroom in an inclusive environment (N=30, Age: 8-9 years, grade 3, hours, 12 hour-module) with a positive effect.
It may be moted the the worldwide the quality of language proficiency in primary is measured through reading tests.
