This year, Ugadi, which is the traditional New Year celebrated in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, marks the beginning of spring and the lunar cycle on March 19. It is said to be the day when Lord Brahma initiated creation, making it a particularly auspicious time for new endeavors and purchases. Homes are beautifully decorated with mango leaf thorans and kolam rangoli.

Ugadi Pachadi is a distinctive blend of six flavors - neem buds for bitterness, raw mango for tanginess, jaggery for sweetness, tamarind for sourness, along with salt and chili - symbolizing the intricate mix of emotions and experiences that the new year will bring. Other popular dishes enjoyed during this time include Pulihora and Bobbatlu.

UGADI'S SPIRITUAL MESSAGE: A POEM

The world was dark, a silent sleep,

No sun, no moon, no stars to peep.

Then Ugadi came, a mighty call,

The universe arose for all.

A fresh, bright start for you and me,

To leave the past and truly be

A better soul, with heart so clean,

A brighter life, a hopeful scene.

When winter's gone, and spring appears,

Life bursts anew, dispelling fears.

Good conquers bad, the story goes,

As every flower sweetly blows.

Reflect upon the year that's past,

Forgive your wrongs, hold love that's fast.

With holy thoughts, the year begin,

Wash clean your soul from every sin.

Align yourself with higher grace,

Find harmony in time and space.

With God's own help, your dreams pursue,

And start your tasks, both old and new.

The Ugadi Pachadi, a taste so bold,

A mix of flavors, new and old.

Sweet, sour, salty, bitter too,

Life's every part will see you through.

Accept them all, the joy, the pain,

The sunny days, the pouring rain.

With equal heart, and steady hand,

You'll walk with strength across the land.
