Practice of broken line drawing has multiple advantages for learning disabled: Case study

The broken line drawing is in the form of dashes that can have many advantages while working working with children with special needs including children with specific learning disabilities. Not only broken line drawing with demonstration, assistance, independence and intense practice enhances attentiveness; provides fine motor movement therapy of dominant hand and fingers; but also becomes the a readiness experience towards hand-writing skills for quiet a few children as gathered by a clinical study on a six-year old dysgraphic child as shown in the illustrated collage.

Read the collage carefully to get a sense how to improve learning by child with special needs for pre-writing skills. Process-purity and patience are pre-requisites on the part of teacher for since CWSN learn in small steps and slowly. Micro-learning cum mastery learning as advocated by Kishore (2021) [1], when put into practice lead to better learning outcomes.

It is recommended that practice should be given various lines such as short, long, thick, thin, horizontal, vertical, zigzag or crossed, diagonal or slant, curly, curved, spiral since they work as physical therapy for hand and later help in acquiring writing strokes to write alphabet correctly. Also, finger tracing of the drawn lines can lead to multi-sensory inputs for working memory development.
