Sant Tukdoji Maharaj (April 30, 1909 – October 11, 1968) was a spiritual leader and social reformer from India who worked in rural Maharashtra. He authored 'Gramgeeta,' which translates to village development. He also wrote numerous articles about Dharma, society, the nation, and education. He explored various religious groups and different ideas, discussing both religious and non-religious issues faced by the followers.
Tukdoji Maharaj taught that God isn't just in places of worship, holy books, or statues because He is everywhere. Ignorance means not realizing oneself and not understanding the all-present God. He called the combination of self-realization and God-realization divine knowledge. The best way to show devotion and worship to God is by purifying the mind and helping others through selfless service, which means improving ourselves and those around us. He encouraged his followers to work hard because divine knowledge helps people know what is right and wrong. He warned that people can become weak and ignorant if they blindly believe in God and follow religious rituals. He urged young people to think about their local community. He said that our talents are not just for our own enjoyment; they are meant to help develop our native place and local community.
INSPIRED POEM
In temples, books, or idols made of stone,
You will not find the Maker of the skies,
For in the open world, He is best known,
And everywhere, the true Divine still lies.
Our ignorance is lacking inner sight,
A failure to perceive the self within,
But wisdom comes to guide the wrong and right,
Where God-realisation can begin.
Weakness is born of blind and rigid rite,
Which clouds the mind and shackles human souls,
True devotion is raising with your might,
A broken world toward its higher goals.
Your talent is not yours alone to spend,
But for your native place, to serve and mend.
