Soon, Face Recognition Technology (FRT) coming to school to improve attendance and learning outcomes: News analysis and rap-limerick

In UP, the state education department is going to introduce the face-recognition based biometric attendance system 6 districts both for students and staff as a pilot project in a bid to improve the learning outcomes of school children. Some other States like Gujarat have already experimented with the Face Recognition Technology (FRT) for schools and offices of various government departments.

To me, it seems that there is great risk of getting learning transformed into criminalised cognitive materialism in this age of governance patronised by digital capitalism. Future, data leaks and its manipulation like paper leak scandals will become another business area.

Well-meaning educators feel that EdTech controlled schools using biometric devices, CCTV cameras, smartboards, open-web tests, etc., are treating schools and students like products by undermining the their right to individually guided education, civil liberty rights and digital rights. In stad there should be systemic reform to hold higher authorities responsible for lack of proper administration of schools and the stass.

RAP LIMERICK

To schools comes the biometric exit-entry system

Assuming that both staff and students lack wisdom

Don't suspect and convert not schools into prisons

Make not schools as producers of spoofing persons

Better, enable the governance as learning ecosystem
