On May 8, 2026, we celebrate World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, which honours humanitarian workers and volunteers all over the world, whether in times of war or peace. This day includes activities like blood donation drives, first aid training, fundraising for health services, public awareness campaigns, and recognizing volunteers.

This observance started in 1948 and aims to honor the volunteers and staff who provide help during emergencies, disasters, and conflicts. It also commemorates the birthday of Henry Dunant, who co-founded the International Red Cross and was the first person to receive a Nobel Prize.

The event is organized by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and includes blood drives, first-aid training, fundraising, public awareness campaigns, and recognizing volunteers.

On this special day, there are also internet campaigns like #WorldRedCrossDay, #RedCross, #RedCrescent, #HumanitarianAid, and #SupportRedCross.

COUPLETS FOR SCHOOL KIDS

From school's bright hall to lands afar,

A simple truth shines like a star.

"Help those around you," hear the call,

Hold kindness close, embracing all.

Join hands and hearts, let goodness bloom,

The Red Cross banishes the gloom.

With hope it comes, with peace it stays,

A bright light in our darkest days.
